Principal's Message
The greatest challenge for any centre of
higher learning is to produce talented human resource which
is the ultimate wealth of a nation. The main objective of
Govt. Hamidia Arts & Commerce College, Bhopal is to provide
high quality education to a wide range of students belonging
to different socio-cultural backgrounds. Being the oldest
institution of the town, the college has been imparting
higher education in the faculties of Arts and Commerce.
We intend to promote merit and talent
among our students through excellence in teaching and
research in various streams of academics. The College is
blessed with a team of well-qualified teachers from whom the
students receive knowledge and guidance in a very
professional and academically congenial environment.
With a sprawling campus and spacious
academic structure, this College is considered to be one of
the most prestigious educational institutions of Madhya
Pradesh. We have over 2000 students pursuing their higher
studies in various streams of academics, and the staff
includes about 75 teaching and 40 non-teaching members.

With the dawn of the 21st century and keeping pace with the times, our college has inducted new courses and subjects and also modified and upgraded the existing courses. In both Arts and Commerce, we run Post Graduate courses in 13 subjects with appropriate facilities for pursuing research work. Our P.G. departments also serve as recognized research centers for Ph.D. degree. The college has a
well-equipped central library which provides all kinds of
study material and research facilities. Our modernization
plan intends to digitize all study material and transform
the library into an e-library and digital library. Apart
from the central library, various departments also have
their own libraries which cater to the specific needs of the
concerned departments. All kinds of information regarding
courses, admissions, research programmes, faculties and
infrastructure, as well as our efforts to improve teaching
and research standards is available online, and can be
gleaned through our official website of the College –

also provide electronic accessibility to international and
national research journals and data bases. The easy to
navigate homepage provides links to upcoming workshops,
events, conferences and lectures being held across the
college as well. From time to time the website also displays
achievements of the students, teachers and the institution. The institution not only aims at the academic upliftment of the enrolled students but also looks after their physical and extra-curricular development. To make our students accountable to society and the nation at large, the college regularly organizes activities such as NSS and NCC (Army/ Naval/ Air wing) for boys. To promote sports and games, we have well maintained playgrounds for Cricket, Hockey, Basketball, Kho-kho, Kabaddi and Football. My admiration never stops growing for
this college, since it has played a pivotal role in
advancing the cause of Higher Education in this part of the
State during its formative years. The galaxy of eminent
personalities who have passed out of this college will speak
volumes for the quality and values that this college has
stood for. Its alumni have distinguished themselves
nationally and internationally in various spheres of life
and are spread far and wide around the world.
An important feature of this institution
is to inculcate the spirit of dedication, sincerity and
loyalty among our students in order to make them accountable
to the organization wherever they may join and work. It is
our endeavour to train the students to translate the
philosophy and vision of their organization into practices
and ensure that the organization feels proud of them. I have
full confidence in the competence and values of our students
and I am confident that they will earn distinction wherever
they go.
The picture of the
world is changing very fast and the challenges therein
demand professionals with global acumen, who are smart,
confident and capable thinkers endowed with a vision of
ideas, so as to convert every challenge into an
opportunity. Almost every year, in-campus drives have placed
our students in reputed MNCs and
corporate world. I can state with confidence that
this institution is a virtual ‘Excellence in Action’
through pedagogical innovation, visionary leadership,
relevant programme of study,
modern curricula, committed faculty, responsive
administration and devoted students. I consider myself privileged to lead the team with compassion and steadfast commitment towards achieving excellence in all our activities. With the support of the faculty, staff and students, I am confident that the college will provide complete and holistic education that is streamlined for the students to express their natural talent and acquired knowledge in different occupations and practical life. In my capacity as the Principal of this noble institution, I welcome all students with an assurance that we shall help them gain the best kind of knowledge and build the best careers at the global level. हमारी संस्था शासकीय हमीदिया कला एवं वाणिज्य महाविद्यालय की स्थापना आजादी के ठीक एक वर्ष पूर्व, सन् 1946 में भोपाल रियासत के तत्कालीन शासक नवाब हमीदउल्ला खान के नाम पर ऐतिहासिक भवन ‘मिन्टों हॉल’ में हुई है। 1 नवम्बर, 1956 में मध्यप्रदेश राज्य की स्थापना के साथ ही भोपाल शहर प्रदेश की राजधानी बना और मिंटो-हॉल को विधान-सभा भवन, बनाया गया। हमीदिया महाविद्यालय वहां से शासकीय पॉलीटेक्निक महाविद्यालय के समीप बने भवन में स्थानांतरित किया गया। वर्ष 2005 में एक बार फिर महाविद्यालय को बुधवारा हाथीखाना स्थित (पुराना, शासकीय महारानी लक्ष्मीबाई कन्या महाविद्यालय) भवन में स्थानांतरित किया गया। महाविद्यालय का कार्य इस भवन में सुचारू रूप से चल रहा है। महाविद्यालय में 1952 में सर्वप्रथम अर्थशास्त्र एवं राजनीतिशास्त्र विषय की स्नातकोत्तर कक्षाएं प्रारंभ की गई। वर्तमान में कला संकाय में 12 एवं वाणिज्य संकाय में 2 विषयों में स्नातकोत्तर अध्ययन-अध्यापन एवं शोध की सुविधा उपलब्ध है। सन् 1956 से इसे स्नातकोत्तर महाविद्यालय का दर्जा प्राप्त है। कला एवं वाणिज्य विषयों के अध्यापन के साथ ही इसे बरकतउल्ला विश्वविद्यालय भोपाल द्वारा कला,भाषा, सामाजिक विज्ञान एवं वाणिज्य संकाय के (पीएच.डी व डी-लिट) शोध केन्द्र की मान्यता प्रदान की गई है। यह महाविद्यालय सम्बधित शोधार्थियों को सुविधाएं उपलब्ध कराता रहा है। महाविद्यालय का पुस्तकालय एवं वाचनालय अत्यन्त समृद्ध है। विभिन्न विषयों की पुरातन एवं अदयतन लगभग 1,61,000/- (एक लाख इकसठ हजार) पुस्तकें महाविद्यालय में उपलब्ध हैं तथा सभी स्नातकोत्तर विभागों में विभागीय पुस्तकालय की भी व्यवस्था है।
युवा उत्सव के अंतर्गत आयोजित साहित्यिक
एवं सांस्कृतिक गतिविधियों में विद्यार्थियों ने राष्टीय एवं
राज्य स्तर प्रतियोगिताओं में स्वर्ण एवं रजत पदक प्राप्त
किये। खेल कूंद से संबंधित अनेक राष्टीय, अंतर्राष्टीय,
राज्य स्तरीय एवं अंतरविश्वविद्यालयीन प्रतियोगिताओं में
विद्यार्थियों ने प्रतिनिधित्व किया और पदक हासिल किये। |
